BASICS OF HTML LANGUAGES
in this chapter, we will see the basics of HTML language we will see what is HTML and why we need to learn it to start web design.
What is HTML?
HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, it's the standard markup language for Web Pages, some people call it a description language that's mean it describe to the browser how the web page will be so it's not really a programming language, that's mean we can't make arithmetic operation using HTML.HTML is composed of elements that we call Tags.
HTML tags label pieces of content such as "heading", "paragraph", "table", and so on.
To create an HTML element we need to use <> tag, example:
<name> element content here </name>
I will give you a list of the most important HTML tags, it will not be complete, but we will see more tags in the next chapters, but before that let me precise to you that there are two types of HTML elements:
- inline elements : <img />, <link />, <meta /> ...
- block element: <div></div> , <h1></h1>, ....
this is what you need to learn about HTML elements.
HTML document
when we need to create a web page using HTML we need to precise to the browser the HTML document using this line that we will put first in every HTML file
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
the doctype declaration is very important for the browser to display the web page correctly, it must be present on the first line of every HTML file.
after writing the doctype on the first line we can add the structure of the page, that will be the object of the next chapter.
